For Educators

Essential Skills & Best Practices For Today’s School Counselor: Intended for school counselors and child study team members. Participants will learn how to conduct thorough and reliable student risk assessments and strategies for helping students develop mood regulation, problem-solving, and social skills.

Feeling Good – The Art & Science of Wellbeing:  Intended for all school faculty members.  The field of psychology has made many advances over the past few decades.  We now know more than ever about the process of change, how emotions work, personality styles, the nature of bad habits, and strategies for change and emotional well-being. This seminar will teach participants science-based concepts and techniques for stress management, overcoming bad habits, feeling better, developing a solution-focused mindset, and living an empowered life. Depending on your training needs, this seminar can be 2-6 hours long.

Suicide Prevention – Knowing Signs & Reducing Risk:  A powerful and moving seminar for all school faculty members.   Suicide has become the 2nd leading cause of death for children and young adults ages 15-24.  Its impact is devastating.  Heartbreak and pain can last a lifetime for family and friends left behind. For teachers, counselors, and other helping professionals involved with the student, it represents the greatest failure in their capacity to assist and protect those they serve.  This workshop will identify important risk factors and strategies for the prevention of suicide.  Most importantly, it will empower participants to monitor and take decisive action in response to students who appear to be at risk of suicidal behavior. This seminar is 1-2 hours long and is well suited for an after-school staff meeting or district-wide keynote presentation.

For Parents

From Porcelain to Steel – Raising Your Child’s Emotional Strength & Resiliency: A motivational and inspiring seminar for parents of school-aged children grades 6-12.  Parents want nothing more than to know their child has what it takes to endure and overcome life’s challenges.  This seminar will teach parents how to improve their child’s emotional resiliency and cultivate the mindset necessary for stress management and goal achievement.   Special attention will be given to identifying and intervening with children experiencing mental health issues.

When Nagging, Lecturing, & Yelling Do Not Work – A Guide to Parenting the Strong-Willed Child: Intended for parents of school-aged children grades 6-12. Some children are immune to the nagging, lecturing, yelling, and other emotional tactics commonly used by parents.  They do not naturally cooperate or listen to their parents. This seminar will teach parents the key to being effective with a strong-willed child, methods for cultivating a cooperative family environment, and a system for effective discipline.

Rat Park – Understanding & Preventing Substance Abuse:  Intended for parents of school-aged children grades 6-12.  One of most parents’ greatest fears is that their child will develop a substance abuse problem.  While there is no shortage of opinions on how to respond to a child at risk, much of it is based on outdated information from the earliest days of substance abuse treatment. Through the most up-to-date research and the vast clinical experience of the presenter, this seminar will challenge some of the most widely held beliefs regarding the nature of childhood substance involvement and how to intervene best.

Suicide Prevention – Knowing Signs & Reducing Risk:  A powerful and moving seminar for parents of school-aged children grades 6-12.  Suicide has become the leading cause of death for children and young adults ages 15-24.  Its impact is devastating.  For family and friends, heartbreak lasts a lifetime. This workshop will identify important risk factors and strategies for the prevention of suicide.  Most importantly, it will empower parents to take decisive action when they have concerns regarding their child’s (or any child’s) emotional health and safety.
